This week in Trailer C

Hi there!
I wanted to send out a quick post since I know some families will be leaving town toward the end of this week.

Reading: We've focused on Literary Elements such as similes, metaphors, idioms, and personification a bit this week in preparation for the MAP test. The week after spring break I am hoping to focus on reviewing complex language that may be used on MAP questions.

Writing: We're fully immersed in an opinion piece about destructive forces. I hope to finish these before break and have them turned in, but we will see if that works out. If not, we will complete them right after break and you will be seeing a grade for those shortly thereafter. Next up: letter writing.

Math: We are cruising through unit 6. This unit has several focuses: multiplying and dividing my powers of 10, multiplying and dividing decimals, applying volume concepts, using line plots, and conversions within the metric system. It is a lot of information, but several of the topics are review. I have practice packets available to take home for extra practice. They will not be graded. Please let me know if that is something that you are interested in for your student.

Science: This week we've focused on force and motion in preparation for the MAP test. Next up is practicing graphing, using the scientific method, and reviewing topics from earlier this year.

Social Studies: We are trying to integrate the Revolutionary War into as much reading and writing as possible.

Dates to know:
-3/23 is hat day/crazy hair day
-3/26-3/30 is spring break
-4/6 is the due date for the next book project. If your student will be gone for the Honor's Choir performance, they can present their book project on Monday, April 9.
-4/11 is early dismissal (12:10). This is also the tentative date for our Unit 6 math test.
-4/20 is Career day at school
-5/1 is "get acquainted night" at Gentry and Jeff Middle Schools

Graduation and end of the year festivities information will be sent home in the Friday Folder after Spring Break!

Enjoy spring break!!
Mrs. Sanders
