Update from Room 25!

Hello, families!

Here are a few updates from our classroom:

Curriculum:

Reading: We have chosen new book clubs that students will respond to digitally through Google Classroom. We also started a new read aloud book, Home Alone, and we will hopefully finish it before winter break rolls around! Students also had a chance to recommend a book to other student readers with our "Chill out with a great book" snowmen. See the work displayed on the bulletin board outside our room in the picture below!

Writing: We've been working on brainstorming and drafting a story that begins: "If I were trapped inside a snow globe..." We also made snow globes to accompany our writing based on the stories that students came up with.

Math: We are almost done with unit 4! We will be testing before break. I will let you and your students know a more official date for the exam. We have covered a lot in the past few weeks--two multiplication strategies (partial-products and partitioned rectangle), converting metric units of mass & liquid measures, using extended facts to solve more difficult problems, and making reasonable estimates of products. As always, I will be reviewing with the class and sending home a review packet about the content that will be on the test.

Social Studies: We've been learning a lot about Lewis & Clark's expedition. We've talked about the difficult journey these explorers had, used a map to show the expedition, and have read & respond about this piece of history.

Other Important Notes:
- We have been talking a lot about Positive Behavior strategies that correlate with our school-wide PBIS curriculum. This week we talked about how to be a positive leader. We also have talked about how to express feelings with words instead of actions and how to walk quietly and safely.
- Next Friday, Dec. 14 is Ugly Sweater Day!
- Thursday, Dec. 20 is our winter party at 1:45
- Here are some links from the office that were sent in an email, but we have also been asked to share them on our blogs!

Thank you for all of your support this year!
