Hello families!!We've had another great week of learning! I am hoping the routine at home in the mornings and evenings is beginning to set in. I know it has been hard for me to adjust from summer mode!
First things first: We got our iPads this week! A celebration is in order!!!
Here are a few reminders/updates:
Math: We've been reviewing how to add and subtract, we've talked about geometry, converting units of length, and estimating. Next week we will touch on finding the perimeter of shapes and talk about triangles and angles briefly. My hope is to have the students test on Unit 1 next Friday, September 7. If this date changes, I will let you know. A review will come home Thursday evening, we will review in class on Thursday. The best way to study with your student is to create practice problems related to the review packet problems.
Writing: We've been working on a small moment story. Next week we will draft our final draft of it and begin writing another narrative.
Spelling: We did work on spelling list 1 this week. Spelling in fourth grade will only be for additional practice. We use this as a station when we do literacy stations each week. The idea is to just expose the students to new vocabulary and practice phonics skills.
Reading: We focused on story elements this week. Each day we did a different activity related to characters, setting, problem, and solution of a story. Ask your child to identify these when reading at home...they should all be experts now :) Next week's focus is character traits and transformations throughout a story.
Science: We've been immersed in adaptations for the past few weeks. We've talked about structural & functional adaptations that animals have, as well as internal and external features that animals have that serve as adaptations. Next week we will continue with adaptations!
Reminders:
PTA Meeting: Tuesday evening, 6:00 pm. RBE Media Center
Picture Day: Wednesday, Sept. 5. We get our pictures taken at 10:30. Please avoid appointments or picking your child up from school during that time (if possible).
Math Test: Friday morning
Walking School Bus: First day is Friday, Sept. 7. You will need to pick your child up from the end of the trail.
