It's Finally Chicken BBQ Weekend!

I feel like it's time to celebrate that the Chicken BBQ is FINALLY here!
Please join us tomorrow night from 4-8 for a good meal, games, a silent auction, and more here at RBE!

Updates from this week:

  • Students will be bringing home unit 2 tests to show parents and have them sign.
  • Parent-teacher conference time preference forms are being sent home in Friday Folders. Please note that the official date for RBE to send these home is actually next Friday. So, if you have other students at RBE, they may not have their forms. I am jumping ahead because I will be absent a few days during the week of the fall party.
  • Parent chaperone volunteers for the zoo portion of our Oct. 23 field trip: There will be some information in your student's Friday folder about where to meet us, park, etc.
  • EARLY DISMISSAL is Tuesday, October 16. RBE dismisses at 12:10. Please let me or the office know of any changes in transportation for your student that day.
  • FAMILY EAT OUT is also that evening, Tuesday October 16 at Jersey Mike's Subs. Come support RBE!!
  • FALL PARTY is Friday, Oct. 26 at 1:40.

Have a wonderful weekend! Hope to see you at the BBQ!

Updates for the week

Hello, RBE families!
We have been working hard these past few weeks in class! Here are some updates for you:

Curriculum:
Math: We've been working hard in unit 2! We've covered square number patterns, the area formula for rectangles, factors and factor pairs, multiples, prime vs. composite numbers, units of time, and number stories. Coming up we will study triangles and quadrilaterals, symmetry, and patterns. We are planning to test on unit 2 next week sometime. Your student will have a review guide to help with practice problems the evening before the test. If there is a particular topic that you notice your student struggling with during homework, please email me and let me know of it ASAP so I can reteach them at school!

Reading: We're in week 2 of book clubs. During book clubs, students have a reading assignment to complete in a week, along with a specific job (e.g.: visualizer). Then, at book club meetings, we discuss the reading assignment as well as each student's responses to their jobs. Several students have really impressed me with their love for reading this year. I have noticed reading as a strength in our class as a whole.

Writing: We've started drafting our second narrative pieces. I'm excited to compare the first narrative writing to the second. It is nice to see growth early in the year in specific content areas.

Social Studies: We've continued our Missouri Geography unit. I am planning to do a cookie decorating party for the kids sometime soon with sugar cookies shaped like Missouri to show the rivers, important cities, regions, etc. If you are interested in baking these cookies, let me know! I have a cookie cutter :) If you are not interested in baking but would like to provide some supplies for this fun project, also let me know!

Reminders & Dates to Remember:
10/2 Curriculum Chat for parents in the Media Center 7:45-8:15 am

Happy first day of October!
